Samuel Clark's Scripture Promises
Samuel Clark (Clarke) (1684-1750), a Protestant Dissenter, came from a family of notable Samuel Clarkes, including Samuel Clarke (1599-1683), who helped author the London Provincial Assembly's Jus Divinum Ministerii Evangelici; Samuel Clarke (1626-1701), who wrote notable annotations on the whole Bible and edited Matthew Poole's English Annotations; as well as at least two other Samuel Clarkes. But this Samuel distinguished himself with a collection of God's promises from the Bible organized thematically, which has endured over the centuries. I commend Samuel Clark's Scripture Promises to those seeking a helpful guide to what Scriptures teach of God's promises to believers.
Hello, I am very glad to have this work of Samuel Clarke brought to my attention - I am presently reading Andrews Gray's sermons on the great and precious promises (which I highly recommend!) and such a commpendium of promises strikes me as highly useful. This collection seems the best I have come accross - do you know of a current publisher? I would be grateful if you could advise...I am enjoying your blog immensely, thank you, your most recent post particularly stirring. May we be enabled to turn to our God with our whole hearts!
ReplyDeleteHi Claire -- Thank you for your kind and encouraging words. Andrew Gray's sermons are indeed rich. Clark's collection is truly an excellent work and it has been republished many times over the centuries. There are a lot of used copies to be found from the 19th and 20th centuries on bookseller websites such as Amazon and Alibris, under titles such as "Precious Bible Promises," "Collection of Scripture Promises," and variations thereof (sometimes his last name is spelled 'Clarke'). Most recently, I think, Kessinger Publishing reprinted it as "Daily Scripture Promises to the Living Christian."

I hope this helps. God bless!
That's great, Thanks!
