MHCC 3: Sanctified Afflictions Are Spiritual Promotions

On Gen. 7.17-20, Matthew Henry borrows from John Dod and writes concerning the rising of the flood waters in the deluge, how at the same time they both executed God's judgment and lifted the saints in the ark higher towards heaven: "The more the waters increased the higher the ark was lifted up towards heaven. Thus sanctified afflictions are spiritual promotions; and as troubles abound consolations much more abound."
