Peter Toon, the noted Anglican priest, author, church historian and theologian, died on April 25, 2009. He has passed on after succumbing to a rare disease called amyloidosis. As a church historian particularly, his work is respected by this blogger. He wrote a number of works dealing with Puritans and Puritanism, including God's Statesman: The Life and Work of John Owen, Pastor, Educator, Theologian; Correspondence of John Owen; The Oxford Orations of Dr. John Owen; Puritans and Calvinism; and, as editor, Puritans, the Millennium and the future of Israel: Puritan eschatology, 1600 to 1660: a collection of essays; as well as various works on meditation. According to the report given of his passing, his last words "were, 'Amen. Alleluia.' And then he said..., 'Goodbye...See you on another shore.'"
Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints. (Ps. 115.16)
