The Larger Catechism

The Westminster Assembly Project and Reformation Heritage Books are again to be commended for the publication by John Bower of the first in a series of Principal Documents of the Westminster Assembly, The Larger Catechism: A Critical Text and Introduction. Dedicated to the memories of William and Samuel William Carruthers, this volume includes a very helpful background essay regarding the development of the longest and least well-known of the productions of the Westminster Assembly, along with a critical edition of the Catechism, and a four-column comparison of the authoritative texts. I was privileged to review an advance copy, and now having reviewed the final work as well, I commend it highly to students of the Westminster Divines for your edification. Dr. Bower and all those who helped along the way are to be thanked for their labor of love.
